Shine & Dave · A Pre-Wedding Day at the Empress Hotel, Goldstream Park and Downtown Victoria
More than a decade ago I photographed a pre-wedding session that is still one of the very best in my memory. Shine and Dave found me online - they were drawn to my storytelling and my style of photos - and travelled all the way from Shanghai, China to Victoria for it. We spent a whole day moving through the city, from the busy streets of Downtown Victoria to the hidden parts of Goldstream Park, where no one has photographed before. They came prepared and they were completely dedicated: they packed their wedding dress and carried it deep into the forest for the photographs, and they may have been the only couple ever to have done wedding photos there. The day also took in the old Empress Hotel, and looking back at these photographs now, what I miss most is how the Empress used to look - all the ivies growing around the hotel building, and the vintage wallpaper inside their room that is no longer there to be seen. Shine and Dave really got something super special.
